September 29, 2007Whatever happened to
Whatever happened to the good old days?
I listen to my dad's tales of his youth, the surf, & the music scene. His tales of being not two feet from AC/DC, way back in the day, when they had just won battle of the bands, back before they were kind of a big deal... all the bands he saw in their prime (Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, The Angels etc etc.). He sure does love to rub it in my face, all the things I missed out on. That bastard. Not ignoring the negatives of the times in which he grew up, things back then, the way it's described, just seem to have ben more vital, & alive. Somehow simpler & more pure. The bands were about the fans & the music, not the money & the 'bitches'. The sets were longer, the venues more intimate, the tickets cheaper, the bands better (NOT to say that there are no bands that are able musicians...but there are some that simply dont deserve the attention they receive.) I long for a time of bliss. A time when the UV from the sun idnt give you cancer, when smoking didnt increase your risk of heart attack, lung cancer, stroke, birth defects in your unborn baby. When one could beat their ungrateful, self centred children, & no one would look twice. Before the interwebs & email. before mobile phones, before music downloads & global warming. Nowadays, you need to pay $50 for a flimsy Tee shirt that cost about $1 to have made in some sweatshop in Taiwan. But it's ok. because it has a band name, or logo printed on it somewhere. The Music festivals aren't about the music anymore. thyre about doing as many drugs as you possibly can without dying, & playing 'Dodge the cops & sniffer dogs." You can't beat your kids, or you'll have DOCS & the cops all over you. The Sun & Smoking are bad for you, but no one cares, they do it anyway. Mobile phones are becoming increasingly small, yet filled with more & more brilliant & utterly unnecessary functions. i'm sure very few people today even remember what a letter is, let alone how to go about posting one. We owe you a big thanks, email! The internet has become a haven for predators or of all kinds. you can find almost anything you want. whether its a 9 year old thai boy, or "How To" instructions for things like... gee I don't know... shooting up the school. making a bomb. Commiting suicide. ...I guess it's ok though. Global warming will end up killing everyone anyway. & the point of this pointless post is: My parents are assholes. I should have been born decades earlier. oh well. I guess i'll just have to learn to love be satisfied with my technology overloaded, abuse free, tiny phone filled, expensive, drug infused existence in todays society. This week, i'm off to see Paramore on the 3rd, & Hinder On The 4th.
